SUPPORT FOR WOMEN WITH MENSTRUAL PROBLEMS

Women’s lives have become so full, busy, powerful and yet overwhelming, stressful and often complicated.

They spend most of their 20s trying NOT to get pregnant and take the pills, wearing a coil which cause side effect on their bodies and emotions. And, should they decide to get pregnant, more and more of them will spend a lot of time trying to get pregnant and trying to figure out why they are not succeeding.

And all this going on while managing often stressful jobs with huge responsibility and long hours. Often relaying on large consumption of alcohol and coffee just to make it through the week! And of course, let’s not forget about the rest of life which must be dealt with, such as relationships with their boyfriend/girlfriend/partner/husband/wife and families and friends.

Is it surprising that during this period many women experience  symptoms such as menstrual pain, Dysmenorrhea, mood swings, anger, depression symptoms, anxiety symptoms, periods that are too long, or too short, or too heavy or too scanty?

All these issues are often due to an hormonal imbalance and high level of stress. Often women feel like their bodies have let them down and are frustrated by it.

This is where acupuncture, reiki and fertility massage come into play. They relieve women of their feeling of overwhelmingness, bring clarity into this fog of confusion, calm the nervous system and bring the hormones back in balance in a natural and effective way.

ENDOMETRIOSIS / PAINFUL PERIODS

Endometriosis is a gynaecological condition in which patches of endometrial tissue, which normally found only in the uterine lining (endometrium) grow outside the uterus. Endometriosis can be asymptomatic or can be associated with pelvic pain, pelvic mass, painful, heavy periods, painful intercourse and infertility.

In a study published in the December 2002 issue of The Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine researchers selected 67 women diagnosed with dysmenorrhea (painful periods) due to endometriosis. It was reported that 81% of these women had less painful periods after receiving the acupuncture treatments. Research shows that acupuncture promotes blood circulation and regulates the endocrine system. Acupuncture can significantly reduce endometriosis symptoms and support fertility where the endometriosis is not impairing the physical anatomy of the womb.

ABSENT PERIODS OR IRREGULAR CYCLES

Amenorrhoea is the absence of menstruation either because it never began (primary amenorrhea) or it stopped at some point (secondary amenorrhea). Western medicine may treat absent periods/irregular cycles with ovulation inducing drugs such as Clomiphene. Acupuncture is used successfully for the treatment of amenorrhea. I have had incredible success with women who had not had any flow for years which recovered after a course of acupuncture and fertility massage.

The body is sometimes in a dormant state and it sometimes doesn’t take much to wake it up to a normal function.

PCOS | POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is characterised by multiple abnormal cysts in the ovaries. It may cause absent or irregular periods, absent or irregular ovulation, infertility, weight gain, excess body hair, acne/oily skin. Luteinising Hormone (LH) is often elevated higher than FSH in a woman with PCOS, and remains elevated throughout the cycle.

Acupuncture is used to treat PCOS very successfully. Again, I have had tremendous success in treating women with PCOS., whether by bringing their periods back, regulating their periods or helping them getting them pregnant.

PERI MENOPAUSE

Menopause occurs naturally at an average age of 50 and involves the natural cessation of menstruation. However the symptoms of menopause may come way before that.

Symptoms including fatigue, irritability, insomnia, inability to concentrate, depression, memory loss, headache, anxiety, and nervousness, sleep disruption, fatigue and irritability. Intermittent dizziness, palpitations may occur. Nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, cold hands and feet, and weight gain are also common. The large reduction in oestrogen leads to changes in the lower genital tract. Women tend to lose pelvic muscle tone and to develop urinary incontinence, cystitis, vaginitis, and loss of libido.

Acupuncture is a great way to deal with these changes. Contact me for more information.
