6 reasons acupuncture is ideal for improving fertility

Acupuncture can provide a wide range of benefits for improving fertility, which is what makes it so effective. It’s an incredibly healing experience for the mind, body and soul.

1 | Aims to treat the root cause

When I see new patients, I warn them! Acupuncture is about ENERGY! With acupuncture, we are working with your energy and tapping into it, to help you change from the inside out. To begin with we work on improving the underlying issue and the root cause of the issue (see my fertility coaching for more guidance on this) so that the symptoms, such as your fertility problems, can improve. By tapping into your energy, it has the potential to make a profound change within you that allows your body to heal itself.

2 | Helps to reduce stress

Acupuncture can help to reduce stress and anxiety, which are both major factors in infertility. Stress can disrupt hormonal balance and interfere with ovulation, making it much more difficult to conceive. Stress needs to be reduced as much as possible when trying to get pregnant and throughout pregnancy.

3 | Improves energy balance

The insertion of extremely fine needles at acupoints in the body works to promote and restore the balance of energies through your body. It’s a natural, non-pharmacological technique, working through the release of endorphins, the body’s own pain management chemicals, and through the release of serotonin from the brain, a chemical associated with pleasure and happiness. Traditional Chinese medicine theory states that acupuncture helps balance the flow of energy, or Qi, which ultimately helps clear energy blockages and allows the body to heal itself.

4 | Helps to regulate hormones

By promoting energy balance, acupuncture can also influence the release of certain hormones, such as cortisol and reproductive hormones like follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and estradiol which can help the body become ready for conception.

5 | Supportive to other treatments, medication or IVF

Being a non-invasive treatment, acupuncture can complement any other treatments you may be having for fertility or other ailments.

6 | Helps to improve blood flow

The healing nature of acupuncture can enhance blood flow around the body and to the reproductive organs. Improved blood circulation can enhance the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to the reproductive system, supporting both healing and overall function.
